MINING SITE OF POZZO GAL
Entering the compendium of Pozzo Gal, the visitor immediately finds himself in front of the large well, a chasm of almost 200 meters vertically and 160 diagonally, nothing but the access door to the subsoil. Pozzo Gal owes its name to the manager of the Pennaroya group, Paul Gal, who around 1920 managed the mines of Gennamari and Ingurtosu. Its commissioning, in 1923, inside the oldest Harold shipyard, was aimed at the underground cultivation of the Brassey vein, one of the most important on the island for the extraction of silver galena.
TODAY THE SITE IS THE HEADQUARTERS OF THE CEAS OF INGURTOSU
(Center for Environmental Education and Sustainability)
It houses a MULTIMEDIA MUSEUM with the history of the INGURTOSU MINE, an ENTOMOLOGY EXHIBITION (History of beekeeping, Insect Collection, History of Silk in Sardinia), various MINERALS COLLECTIONS, PHOTOGRAPHIC EXHIBITIONS, CHEMICAL LABORATORY OBJECTS EXHIBITION, HISTORICAL ARCHIVE (magazines and books on mining, geology, etc.)
